look at us, all patchwork and stitches

This song is a tribute to Leyla, an amazing young woman in my community who recently died after living boldly and beautifully with terminal cancer. 

I wrote this song, so quickly and so backwards from my usual process that it was finished before I realized I was writing it. It hadn't been my intention or even on my conscious mind at the time, but I knew it was about Leyla. Or more accurately, about the strange, sweet way this sadness wraps us close and fastens us together. She passed two days later.
